Prof. Alexandre O. Vera-Cruz holds PhD in Economics of Innovation from the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex, England. He has been a professor and researcher at the UAM-Xochimilco, Mexico for the last 25 years, where he is currently a full-time Professor. He lectures in the Economics and Innovation Management Graduate Program at UAM, program which he has been coordinating. He is a level III National Researcher and a regular member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He was member of the first Strategy and Government Council of the newly created University of Cape Verde, Africa.
He has broad experience in studies about technological learning processes and technological capability building in industry organizations and the agricultural sector, organizational culture and technological behavior, as well as in innovation policy and innovation systems. He has participated in evaluations of the science, technology and innovation policy in Mexico, among them the project “Basis for a Science, Technology and Innovation Policy in Mexico” for the FCCyT in 2006 and the Background Report for the OCED Innovation Report in 2008. He has participated in several collective research projects and recently he leads one on the innovation system in the agricultural sector, funded by the CONACYT (the Mexican S&T agency).
