Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Pretoria
Dr. Marc Wegerif has worked on development issues in a range of organisations for more than twenty seven years including carrying out research, defence of human rights, campaigning and with over eighteen years in management positions. Before taking up the current position as a postdoctoral fellow, doing research on food systems and the human economy, he most recently worked as the Land Rights Policy Lead for Oxfam.
Substantial work in the NGO sector has been complimented by periods with private companies and as an independent consultant. His contribution to political and social transformation has extended to roles in a range of other organisations from local community and political activities to leadership in national and regional structures.
In 2004 he complimented his extensive practical experience with the completion of a Master of Philosophy Degree (cum laude) in Land and Agrarian Studies from the University of the Western Cape. In 2017 he completed a PhD in Sociology at University of Wageningen with research focused on the 'symbiotic food system' that feeds most residents in the large city of Dar es Salaam.
He has established four organisations, run five, and initiated a range of strategically important local, national and international projects.
