Country Director, Water Aid Malawi
Mrs Mercy Masoo is a development specialist with over 21 years in the NGO sector. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Project Planning and Management from the University of Bradford, England and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Malawi.
She has worked in various programme implementation, management and leadership positions with Save the Children (UK), CARE Malawi, ActionAid International in Malawi, Oxfam, Sightsavers and WaterAid, through which she has made significant contribution in positively changing the lives of poor people in Malawi. Her work experience and expertise in development covers a broad range of areas which include design and implementation of development and poverty-eradication, and humanitarian programmes and projects in the areas of infrastructure development, livelihood security, social protection and safety nets, HIV/AIDS, education, health, urban development, WASH, governance, women’s rights and disability, among others.
Currently, she is the Country Director for WaterAid in Malawi. Prior to that, she has worked in various capacities as Country Director for Sightsavers in Malawi, Senior Programme Manager for Oxfam in Malawi, Central Region Programme Coordinator for ActionAid Malawi, Programme Manager for Social Protection and Safety Nets Programmes at CARE Malawi and WASH Project Coordinator at Save the Children.
She is a strong believer in enabling people’s power to overcome obstacles and injustices that perpetuate their poverty and suffering, and realise their full potential. She is also passionate about women empowerment and upholding their right to a dignified life.
