Africa Innovation Summit Foundation Announces Inaugural Board of Trustees

2 February 2024, Praia, Cabo Verde - The newly launched Africa Innovation Summit (AIS) Foundation has assembled a powerhouse Board of Trustees comprising eminent leaders who will guide the institution's mission to accelerate African innovation. 

The AIS Foundation's Board of Trustees include:

• • Ambassador José Brito - Chair, Board of Trustees | Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities, Cabo Verde
  • Dr. Olugbenga Adesida - Co-Founder & President | Co-Founder & CEO, Bonako
  • Dr. Geci Karuri-Sebina - Associate Professor Digital Governance & Coordinator, Tayarisha African Centre of Excellence in Digital Governance University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa 
  • Dr. Carlos Lopes - Honorary Professor, Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance, University of Cape Town, South Africa, Visiting Professor at Sciences Po, Paris, France and Former Executive Secretary, UNECA  and Former Executive Secretary, UNITAR 
  • Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim- Goodwill Ambassador for ICESCO for the promotion of Girls in STEM | Former President of Mauritius
  • Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki - Special Envoy for Food Systems at the African Union | Former Prime Minister, Republic of Niger; Former Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD/AUDA

This globally respected team brings decades of leadership across science, technology, governance, policy and entrepreneurship. Their guidance will be indispensable as the AIS Foundation strives to contribute to building vibrant innovation ecosystems across Africa.

The AIS Foundation seeks to accelerate African innovation through research, policy advocacy, fostering collaboration and facilitating access to funding. The Board of Trustees will help drive these programs to unlock the continent's immense potential.
